Litecoin is an open-source blockchain project based on Bitcoin technology. Litecoin, dubbed the “silver to Bitcoin’s gold,” was intended to have far quicker transaction speeds and to be more scalable than Bitcoin. 

Charlie Lee, a software engineer who formerly worked at Google and the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, designed the blockchain, which was released on the bitcoin discussion forum in October 2011.
